Dhadak Movie Review by Dev Meher | Ishaan Khatter | Janhvi Kapoor

Dhadak Movie Review
Dharma Productions have consistently delivered glamour, big stars and drama in their movies and Dhadak is no exception. The makers have made it look more like a rip-off which is quite different from a remake. The translators of the Sairat script have done a good job of perfectly putting things and dialogues exactly where Sairat makers invested their brains and hearts. The director has not just copied the timeline but has also made sure that the frames look like twins and doing this the newbie Ishaan and Jhanvi might not have been such a wise decision.

The story too proves to be an efficient follower as the plot traces the lines along caste discrimination and honor killings. Similar to the Laila Majnus of this century depicted in movies like Ishaqzaade, Sairat, and Dahek, this too has the leads of two different castes who fall in love decide to dive into the relationship all while upsetting two whole communities who crave for their blood. The first half has all the roses with the Zingaat fun while the second half post-interval has the thorns that come along and has all the blood and sweat (quite literally)! The director has made good use of his tools when it comes to the climax, knowing you are curious to see whether they make it or not.

The locations for the film work against the story and characters as it is hard to empathize with characters who have little to no struggle and the director has made the problems without any sense of displacement and it makes it hard for the viewers to sympathize with the characters in any way and breaks the connection of the reel to real.

The cinematography helps handicap the movie in various ways. With Ajay-Atul and their fabulous musical input, the whole thing is wasted even when you can find yourself enjoying the glamour in the feature film. The editing is very clean and the production is quite sharp! The movie isn’t bad but if you have watched Sairat you might not enjoy it a bit.
