If there ever has been a movie franchise as famous and successful as ever, it is the Bahubali franchise. Grandiose sets, sky-high budget and action-packed thriller drama with an inimitable Mahabharata style, S.S Rajamouli made history with two installments of this cult film – Bahubali: The Beginning and Bahubali 2: The Conclusion.
The question has since been asked repeatedly – Will there be Bahubali 3?
The film franchise has turned iconic with its unsurpassed box office collections. While Bahubali: The Beginning became the highest-grossing film in India, third highest-grossing Indian film worldwide, and highest-grossing South Indian film, at the time of its release, Bahubali 2: The Conclusion became the first ever Indian film to gross over 10 billion in just ten days. It stands as the highest grossing film in India, the second highest-grossing Indian film worldwide and the 57th highest-grossing film of 2017.
No wonder then, that the audience is excited to know if there is more that can be explored in the plot, story-line, new members to the cast and the budget. Probably the most expensive movie made in India ever, Bahubali 3 will also have to match the sky high budget and maintain the same suspense, excitement and thrill it did with the first two films. However S.S Rajamouli Bahubali 3 has clarified that he will not drag the existing story for the sake of it. “Baahubali-3 is on cards... But the story that`s written for the two parts will not be dragged for the sake of it. This story will conclude with the second part itself. Baahubali-3 will be done in a way that audience have never experienced films before,” he tweeted. Since then, the guessing game is on about the plot, cast and the budget.
Tamanna’s character Avanthika –
This was one character that was not explored much in Bahubali: The Conclusion. Fans are of the opinion that her character can be ascribed a more important role in Mahendra Bahubali’s life and his decision to climb up the mountain. The jungle-rebel that she was, it remains to be seen what led her to become an asset to Bahubali.
Devasena’s 25 years –
Once Amrendra Bahubali died his wife Devasena was held captive. The audience doesn’t know what happened to her in those 25 years she stayed as Bhallaladeva’s prisoner. What if there were other people with malicious intent that plotted to exploit her? That’s one plot angle to be explored.
Kattappa –
This one character has been the backbone of the movie. The answer to the question, “Kattappa ne Bahubali ko kyun mara” boggled people after the first instalment. This one question made everyone flock to the theatres for Bahubali 2: The Conclusion. A possible plot could be the reason behind Kattapa’s compulsion that he and every member born in his family has to follow the King command`s, no matter whether it is wrong or right. Not to forget, Kalkeya’s brother might attack Maheshmati again which might bring Sudeep Sanjeev, seen in the first film, back. Remember, impressed with Kattappa’s honesty, he had vowed to help him whenever needed?
Since the second installment was backed by Karan Johar, the third installment of the franchise is expected to rake in Rs 500 crores. Reports also suggest that screenwriters from Hollywood might come on board for story ideas for Bahubali 3. If that happens, this one might just break the box office records of the previous two movies and who knows? It might break its own previous record in terms of the budget!
The problem however lies with Prabhas’s schedule. Karan Johar has been keen on launching Prabhas in Bollywood. Though Prabhas is already under work commitments he made before Bahubali, it remains to be seen how long it takes for him to complete his next ambitious project Saho. That apart, Rajamouli is also beset with commitments he made to Telugu producer D V Danayya.
Also, the release of the animated series Baahubali: The Lost Legends on Amazon Prime has put people in confusion if this animated series is indeed the third instalment! This series was launched in April 2017 and has been created by SS Rajamouli in association with Graphic India and Arka Mediaworks.
Whether the audience will get to see Prabhas Bahubali 3 on the big screen with a bigger ensemble and record-breaking budget? Only time will tell.
