Best Supernatural Thriller movies made in India

One genre of movies that Bollywood is still lacking behind is surely making good flicks on supernatural thrillers. Whenever we think of a Bollywood horror movie, the things that come to our mind are ugly monstrous creatures or a sexually implicit movie with B grade actors and C grade acting without any proper storyline. Thus, most of the supernatural movies in India are not scary at all and sometimes even look funny.
However, there are some supernatural thrillers Movies which have got good appreciation from the audience as well as the critics. Some of the films include-

1.Raaz (2002) –

 A Hollywood remake of the movie “What lies beneath”, Raaz was the benchmark for the new age Indian horror movies. With spooky background score and scary ghostly appearance accompanied by a powerful story and good direction, Raaz was a milestone in Indian supernatural movies. The movie was a huge hit and Bipasha Basu, the lead actress in the movie did a phenomenal job.

2.Mahal, (1949) –

Mahal was the first ever Bollywood horror movie ever made. It dealt with the subject of reincarnation. Mahal, though with very less visual effects was still a very scary movie for its generation. Mahal also remained the scariest movie for almost 2 decades and it’s for sure that it had given your grandparents sleepless nights.

3.Bees Saal Baad, (1962) –

Who can forget the song “Kahin deep jale kahin dil”, which scared the entire nation with a mysterious women walking in the midnight around vacant fields. It was so much scary that it turned out to be the highest grossing movie in 1962.  Though, the story of Bees Saal Baad was a poor adaptation of” The Hound of Baskerville”, it was loved by the audience.

4.Bhoot, 2003 –

Bhoot was a cult horror movie directed Ram Gopal Verma. It’s sad that how RGV taste has gone down over the years, but he ruled the Bollywood industry in the 1990’s and early 2000’s and Bhoot is the fine example of it. Starring Ajay Devgn and Urmila Matondkar in lead roles, kept us at the edge most of the time and made us cry in fear with the random scary moments.

5.Ragini MMS (2011) –


Talk about sexual horror movies, Ekta Kapoor is the master of making it. She all started it with Ragini MMS in the year 2011 which was inspired by the American supernatural horror movie “Paranormal Activity”. This movie managed to draw a huge number of audience with its edge of the seat thrill sequences. If you love spines and fear it so, Ragini MMS is a perfect watch for you.
